European bike week - Faaker See 2011
European bike week - Faaker See 2011

Salut à toi Rider !

As you may remember, the NEW-YORK RIDER MAGAZINE is now international and in this early September, your French correspondent attended the EUROPEAN BIKE WEEK 2011. YES!

Faaker see 2011

Back for its 14th year – European Bike Week – could it get any better? Oh yes it was! Europe’s biggest free and open bike event saw more than 70,000 bikes circle the shores of Faaker See in Austria in 2010 ... and may be more this year.
For 2011, the region of Carinthia (Austria) has been once again come alive with the sound of V-Twins as European Bike Week comes to town.

Highlights for 2011 included the announcement of rock legends Uriah Heep who has headlined the main stage. For custom bike enthusiasts : the AMD Affiliated Custom Bike Show. Not only is a trip to Sturgis to compete at the World Championships up for grabs, but the winner of the Best Modified Harley class will also ride away the proud owner of a Screamin’ Eagle Big Bore engine.
The parade has once again seen more than 25,000 bikes take the ride from Faaker See to Finkenstein, Villach and Ossiacher See. The parade was rumoured to have stretched 26km!

This event continues to attract dealers and traders from all across Europe who will occupy the Dealer Mile and provide shopping enthusiasts with plenty of choice. With food, drink, entertainment and some of Europe’s best biking roads, what more could you ask for?

So, with my two best rider friends, we left home on the 6 of September and back after having ride across East of France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Austria under the sun. Back home on 11 of September (under the rain) with 2585 km in our wheels. Yes we are RIDERS!!!

It was a great run, a big party, we have met friends from all over Europe and I’m especially proud to have a photo of me and my New York Rider mag’ in front of the Faaker Am See’s road signal and happy to have this second one with my friend the Belgian master builder, mister Fred KRUGGER himself (Have a look on http://www.krugger.net/).
